In 2019 and 2020 a ‘Taste of Streaky Bay’ will follow in the tradition of the celebrated Eyre Peninsula Fishermens and Farmers Market ‘Taste of Eyre Peninsula’ event. The region’s premier food and wine event will showcase great EP food, wine and produce and for the first time will be hosted again by Streaky Bay Tourism.
Enjoy the events festival atmosphere and experience Eyre Peninsulas culinary delights at the breathtakingly beautiful Streaky Bay foreshore lawns overlooking the jetty and bay.
THE MENU IN 2018 WAS SENSATIONAL!
The 2018 menu showcased a vast range of quality product fresh from the sea and land to your plate.
Over 1,000 marketgoers indulged in tasty dishes prepared by Streaky Bay and Eyre Peninsula producers and chefs including: Streaky Bay King George Whiting Soft Shell Taco, Cone of Streaky Bay Salt & Pepper Stingray, Fishmongers Snapper Pie, Oysters Kilpatrick & Oysters Natural, Streaky Bay Meat Beef Short Rib in a Smokey BBQ Sauce with creamy Potato Salad, Riverfarm Lamb AB (Layer of hot chips with Riverfarm lamb topped with Garlic sauce, BBQ sauce, Chili Sauce and cheese) and; Charcoal spit roasted Port Lincoln Gourmet Meats Lamb & Elliott’s bakery mini sliders with HM cream cheese and fresh apple slaw–Handmade Catering and; Charcoal spit roasted Port Lincoln Gourmet Meats Pork smoky barbecue & Elliot’s bakery mini sliders with HM signature sauce and fresh apple slaw-Handmade Catering.
On offer were delectable sweets such as home cooked mini Apple Pies, Baklava with Haystacks Honey or Apricot Crumble Waffle with locally stewed Apricots, cinnamon crumble and cream to enjoy with a wide choice of coffees and teas. Also available for tasting and purchase were: Salty Eyre seasoned shakes and condiments; Mettwurst from Streaky Bay Meat Service; Streaky Bay Marine Products Canned Abalone; Seafood Mezze Port Kenny Prawn pickled product; Elliott’s Bakery and Cafe fresh artisan sourdough loaves in two varieties – grain or white and; Streaky Bay themed kitchen items. Streaky Surf are joined us in 2018 to feature their popular Streaky Surf range of clothing for marketgoers to look stylish in.
In 2018 we were thrilled to introduce many newcomers to our event.
Peter Teakle Wines and Beer Garden Brewing from Port Lincoln provided some great wines. Peter Teakle wines had a selection of wines to sample and buy: Peter Teakle Shiraz, released in 2017 containing the best grapes sourced from the Clare Valley in Port Lincoln. With a delicious, rich taste this wine is ready to drink now; Peter Teakle Cabernet Sauvignon, released in 2017 which also uses the finest fruit from the Clare Valley in South Australia; Peter Teakle Chardonnay is a surprise packet for many with the first taste a delight for those who branch out to try this wine crafted with the best grapes from the Adelaide Hills and; Peter Teakle Sauvignon Blanc their most popular wine, enjoyed by those who want a crisp, clean summer wine.
Marketgoers caught up first hand with Helen from Peter Teakle Wines to hear about the wines and the sumptuous restaurant menu featured at the new The Line & Label restaurant in Port Lincoln. The menu prepared by two-hat Executive Chef, Josh Harris is crafted using the finest local produce available on Eyre Peninsula. The Line & Label is set amongst the vineyard of Peter Teakle Wines, with 24 acres of vines, 60 produce garden beds and an extensive orchard of over 350 trees. This allows Chef Harris to create contemporary menus using the freshest products harvested daily.
A Taste of Streaky Bay was a ‘must’ opportunity for beer lovers to chat first hand with Mark Butterworth about their unique range of tasty handcrafted beers. Beer Garden Brewing are passionate about bringing ‘fresh eyre on tap.’ The 2018 line-up was ‘frothing’!
SALTY Session Ale, Eyre Peninsula Pale Ale, Section 49 Wheat Beer, Cage Diver India Pale Ale, Weezale Amber Ale and, Captain Porter Original Sin Coffee Stout.
In 2018 the market also featured a new delicious South Australian honey from regional SA. Haystacks Honey is a family-owned honey producer and pollination services business based in Adelaide and hailing from Calca just South of Streaky Bay.
In 2018 the Taste of Streaky Bay event featured live music from ‘Mortana’. Duo Vinnie and Julie Cash will brought a cruisy sound to the event setting the atmosphere for a great day.
So where is the best place to be on 28 April 2019 and 19 April 2020? Get in early and book your accommodation or plan your self-drive trip to be in sunny Streaky Bay for a Taste of Streaky Bay!
