Internationally acclaimed Eyre Peninsula sculptor Ken Martin created the 100kg bronze statue of Streaky Bay’s favourite son, Kerrin McEvoy.
Having three Melbourne Cup victories and 79 group one triumphs, Kerrin’s first win was on a dirt track at Ceduna.
While the statue pays tribute to Kerrin and his family for their achievements on the racetrack, the father of four hopes the statue would encourage and inspire future generations of Streaky Bay to “Dream big and go hard”.
It was also a proud moment for the Streaky Bay Racing Club which worked on the project over the past five years raising the $125,000 for the creation of the statue.
The statue was unveiled on Sunday 27th March 2022.
